The Elements by Theodore Gray App Reviews

Just ok

This app is a lot of fun and has great facts and examples but is NOT worth the $13.99

DO NOT UPGRADE

Latest update broken on iPhone 6 plus. Working well until update but now screen is cut off halfway over. Looking forward to getting this fixed asap.

Worthless

Gives very little info. No added value for the price. Tries to up-sell a companion app before delivering on its own price. Boo.

Disappointed

I relied on it being presented by the same people who presented "The Wasteland." I assumed this app would be as good. It isnt - not even close. The opening isnt the periodic table - its happy faces and icons. Click one and read a summary from Wolfram Alpha. Want to learn more as promised? Easy, click the icon for "learn more" and buy the "companion app." Use Google - its more informative and free of irritation and cost.

Love touchpress apps

Thanks

An Absolute Must-Have

Although this app makes a great showcase to impress your friends with your newest iOS device, it goes far, far beyond that. Specifically, what makes this App amazing is Mr. Gray’s fantastic descriptions of each and every element. Concise, accurate, and most of all, interesting, I directly attribute my son’s love of science to this App (and later Mr. Gray’s works in print). I have purchased over 500 Apps since I bought my first iPhone but The Elements stands out as my single favorite purchase. You will get lost in this, especially if you have children. Buy it.

AMAZING APP

I love this app its amazing and helps my study I love every thing about it if your interested in science I highly recommend it

Good app but a few problems

I love this app and it has been very helpful but I think that there are a few problems. I think that Coperniciums symbol is Uub not Cn.

Love this app!

I use this app in my classroom to supplement our science curriculum. The kids love it! It helps them see the elements and their uses and functions. The songs (one in English and one in Japanese) are also very fun and makes learning about the elements more engaging.

Lovely layout, filled with politics...

So here we have a brilliant App, a wonderful learning tool and reference... Almost. Its very pretty, but the additional information tabs are filled with one persons idiotic politics and personal views on each element. Im sorry but sometimes your libtard politics are just not appropriate, and imbedding them Orwellian style into a learning app is just... well Orwellian. Its shady, cowardly, and just grotesque. Throwing whatever scientific credibility the author may have had right in the garbage. So please, save your cowards political views for your undoubtedly "super special" blog and let science be science, you know, REAL information, honest data, not one persons twisted views.

Great, but expensive

Pro: Its a great multimedia app, localized to a lot of languages, including Russian. Its best with Elements in Action application. You can really feel each element: scientific data, pictures, stories and (with EiA) videos. Cons: It takes too much memory, so this app is often the first candidate for deletion. Could we use some compression technology "on the fly", unload unused languages, have a choice of high/low resolution? Also the price is too big by AppStore standards. Advice / feature request: it would be nice to see atoms and crystal pictures as larger 3D models. Also the way to change pages is counter-intuitive.

Ive been wanting this for a long time...

Its beautiful, but its lacking a little mostly in that the graphics and look a bit over compressed, but the program is HUGE so they have no choice but to compress it. Everything is spinable or has video. Its pretty neat. I wish I had this for science class. Im a science geek, but I really thought Id play with it for HOURS. Not the case, so thats a little disappointing considering the cost. Theyve definitely made some improvements. The text is better (I think it was graphics before) and its very easy to enlarge/shrink. All the element data (from Wolfram) appears to be in the program (before it seemed like it was downloading it every time). I think this could easily be a 5 star app. And for the price it should be...

More glitz than substance

Although Elements looks great at first glance, it very quickly bottoms out. Its like an impressive movie facade without much behind it. My first exploration was to learn about bronze. Although I could read the properties of copper and tin, and see one ornamental example, I learned nothing about bronze in history, which had a lot more to do with tools and weapons than art. Given we have named a whole era after this metal, I was expecting a lot more context and depth. And with the relatively high price of this app, the lack of depth is particularly disappointing.

Amazing!

Worth every penny.

How about a companion app covering isotopes.

Very nice app, very informative. Researching the isotopes for each element would make the app perfect.

Too basic

Large App with lots of pictures but hardly any information... for example, it shows you a picture of a person but no info about it. A waste of money... If you ask me

Disappointed

It seems intended for children. Starts with a kindergarten doing about all the elements, sort of like the alphabet song. The interface looks dated (think 1998 style websites). The narrative descriptions are informal, not professional. The onky useful info is pulled from Wolfram Alpha, which makes me wonder why I am paying for this app - I could go straight to Wolfram. In short: even at 80% discount its not worth the money.

Great app! But

There are random unfinished sentences which make me sad

Good but not enough

I really liked this app but when it came to sale I purchased it. The way in which elements are arranged is nice and the 3d view of them is also great but one thing Id liked to mention is that the size of app is too much large. Its whooping 1.7 GB but I got a 64 GB iPhone 6 and its working fine but for those having a 16 GB model would be a trouble. Next thing is the information. Information in this app is not according to its worth when it was 13.99$ Im lucky Ive not purchased it then. Overall it would be great if the size was small a more information was added to it.

Nice app

Nice pictures, its cool how it rotates. I think that this app is great, dont know why so many people are leaving bad reviews.
